Yin Yoga
What can you expect from our women-only Yin Yoga classes in Solihull? Learn how this unique practice differs from other styles of yoga.

Harmony in contrast
Modern life is often very 'yang' - stimulating, constantly moving and doing. Yin is the opposite - it's slower, quieter, softer, and more reflective. If Yang is like climbing a mountain through effort and momentum, Yin is like floating gently down a river. Both are important. Just as balance in life requires both action and rest, yoga does too. Yin Yoga is built around this philosophy.

Feel the difference
Yin Yoga gently targets deep fascia, ligaments, and joints - helping to improve mobility, ease tightness, and bring the body back into balance.
Positioning
Unlike faster-paced yoga, Yin Yoga positions are held for several minutes at a time, allowing the body to gradually release tension
The Yin Focus
Through long-held stretches, Yin encourages flexibility, mobility, connective tissue release, stress relief, and nervous system regulation
Yin Yoga positions can be adapted to suit all ability levels - for beginners, those returning to movement, and experienced practitioners

Benefits of Yin Yoga
First developed during the 1970s, Yin Yoga explores the relationship between anatomy, connective tissue, energy pathways, and mindfulness

Deep tissue release
Dynamic exercise focuses on the muscles through repeated movement, effort, heat, and momentum – what traditional Chinese philosophy describes as 'yang' energy.
Deeper connective tissues, on the other hand, are seen as more 'yin' in nature - denser, less elastic, and slower to adapt. They respond best to longer periods of gentle, sustained stress rather than fast, repetitive movements.
Health benefits
In youth, the body is more flexible and resilient, but with age, stress, inactivity, and repetitive movement, connective tissues become stiffer and less mobile. Yin Yoga helps counterbalance this by restoring elasticity and mobility within the body’s deeper structures.
If you want to improve flexibility, posture, circulation, mobility, and joint health, Yin Yoga can be incredibly beneficial. It also provides a restorative balance to more intense 'yang' activities such as strength training, running, and dynamic yoga.
